We can't bring ourselves to throw small pieces of leftover fabric away. The pattern for the New Cooking Bag is round, the pieces of fabric are square. That means quite a lot gets left over. Of those small pieces we now make the "part-part" New Cooking Bags, as our ladies call them. The women sew the small pieces together to form larger, square pieces of fabric. They take turns taking big bags of leftover fabric home, and they work in the evenings and on weekends. They are fantastic: the "part-part" New Cooking Bags as well as these hardworking women.

We got a gift from heaven, or so it seemed... We were offered thousands of pieces of fabric with African prints that had been gathering dust somewhere. Did we want them? Yes, we did! And look at the wonderful result. This will keep us going for quite a while, and it's such fun working with these pieces. Just looking at them makes you happy.

As I was driving back from a visit to the bank, I noticed a lot of activity in the Jubilee Park. It was the national election of Teacher of the year. The vice-president was there, as well as teachers and students from all over Ghana. I talked my way in with the police and the heavily armed soldiers, and there we were, in the bright sunlight on the square, with our NCB's. We managed to sell quite a few of them, but what's more important: we got a lot of great new contacts. If they all do what they promised, we will be more than all right!

Again this year we were very happy to receive leftover fabrics from a factory in the Netherlands, that manufactures company clothes. These sturdy fabrics are very much appreciated in Ghana! Quality is very much liked here! From these fabrics we make "PREMIUM" New Cooking Bags. New Cooking Bags made from school uniform material are in the same category. We call the other NCB’s, made from beautiful colourful African fabrics, “ ECONOMIC “. They work in exactly the same way if it comes to slow-cooking, but there is a slight difference in price and appearance.

When, we started with our project "New Cooking Bag" in 2014, we made a quantification: “Our goal is to have introduced 10.000 New Cooking Bags in Tamale and its surrounding villages by the end of 2020…” I guess we have to adjust that very soon! We think it is wonderful that already now, in August 2015, we could deliver our 5000th New Cooking Bag! And we are not only introducing the NCB in Tamale and it’s surrounding villages, but we are also promoting it in all of the 10 Regions of Ghana!

I just got back from a great demonstration with Rashida. There were only about 15 people present in the Baptist church, but they were very enthusiastic. It was a great morning. We sold 26 NCB’s and the fact that they didn't come with a bag wasn't a problem for this man at all. I'll say it once more: even though this was the only man present this morning, the men are all in it with us!

The deaf boys from the workshop for people with a disability surprised me today when they showed me wonderful blouses they had made from leftover pieces of  fabric from our New Cooking Bags. When I looked closer , I even noticed leftovers from leftover fabrics that we received last year from the Netherlands. Leftovers from leftovers… That sounds useless, but can be so worthy!

Information

Today a film was made about our workshop. Soon this film will be shown thrice on the show 'Business in the Northern region'. We used the New Cooking Bag to cook for both the camera man and presenter of the show. I think we did all right. Unfortunately, this show can only be viewed by satellite, but you never know to where it will lead.

Finally, we have it! Our own baking-moped! Hamdia deserved it because she was elected Pioneer of Africa by the Cheetah Fund last year. Now, here we are with Hamdia sitting on the box, all of us dressed to the nines! A special outfit as a promotion for the New Cooking Bag. I can sure tell you that we attract a lot of attention! We all are very proud of this!

How great is this? Our own new label properly printed on shiny, detachable fabrics. It only took one morning of tailoring and now they have already been attached to our pillows. It looks both beautiful and professional. There are several advantages of using our own label. Firstly,we indicate to customers that this is an original New Cooking Bag. Secondly, we refer to a special English New Cooking Bag site, which includes information on the distribution of the N.B.Cs in Ghana. Finally, the new label includes our contact information. This information can be used for both information and orders.

We couldn't have imagined a more beautiful ending to 2014. SNV, a Dutch development organisation with an office in Tamale, decided to sponsor us with a considerate amount of money. As a result, we have been able to purchase more than a hundred bales of fabrics. This is absolutely amazing! This is the equivalent of more than a 1000 New Cooking Bags! It has always been important to us to have support from within Ghana... All in all, looking back at this amazing year with all its highlights, positive responses and support all over, we hope that this new year will at least be nothing less than an equivalent!
